​To ensure a growth mindset focused learning environment, all students in my studio are required to have the following gear ready prior to our first lesson. I teach lessons in person and online. All materials specific to online students only are marked (*). I do recommend having these set ups regardless, as even an in-person student benefits from the ability to take online lessons in special cases.

1. The Virtual Connection (Tech)

Because we may meet via a high-definition virtual platform, your tech setup is our "classroom."

• A Dedicated Tablet or Computer *

Lessons must be taken on a device with a large enough screen for the student to see my technical demonstrations clearly. Smartphones are not permitted as primary lesson devices.

• High-Speed Internet *

A stable connection is required to prevent lag or audio distortion.

• Designated Power Supply *

Your device must be plugged into a charger during the lesson. A dead battery mid-lesson disrupts the flow of learning and cannot be rescheduled.

• Proper Lighting

Ensure there is a lamp or window in front of the student. Avoid sitting with a bright window behind the student (backlighting), as this makes it impossible for me to see technical details.

2. Instrument & Audio

• Piano

It is not required to have any specific type of acoustic piano (baby grand, upright, etc.), however it's maintenance is. If you would like help finding a technician in your area, I would be happy to help. If you are investing in a quality instrument, my brand advice is Yamaha, Kawai, Mason & Hamlin, or Steinway. If your preference is digital, a full-size (88-key) weighted action digital piano/keyboard is also a great option. Reputable brands for keyboards are Yamaha, Kawai, Casio, and Roland. Ensure when purchasing your keyboard it comes with a stand. For reference, my primary keyboard is a Yamaha P-125.

• Piano Bench 

Height adjustable.

• Music stand

Most instruments come with this included.

• Foot stool

This is for growing learners. If you have a student that is not quite tall enough to reach the ground, a foot stool is very important for their balance. 

​• Proper Device Placement/Camera Angle *

You will need a stand or a stable surface to position your streaming device so I can see your hands, arms, and posture.

​3. The "Success Binder" & Supplies

Organization is a key pillar of my teaching model. Every student must have:

• 3-Ring Binder (1 or 1.5 inch)

This will house all the curated sheet music, technique exercises, and practice logs I email to you.

• Working Printer

You are responsible for printing the weekly materials sent to your communication channel prior to our lesson time.

• Pencil & Notebook

For taking notes and marking your music during our session.

• Metronome

This is my recommendation.
